These translations suggest the theme of our event which is that Yoga is universal, accessible to all. 

For every year since 2009, the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States has offered students of all levels of experience the opportunity to study with the finest and most senior Iyengar Yoga teachers from across the country. These regional conferences take place over the course of a three-day weekend and have been offered in different regions of the country including Providence, RI, Chicago, IL and Washington, DC.

San Diego is hosting the 13th Iyengar Yoga Teachers’ Convention. This international convention began in 1984 and is held every three years. The convention is open to certified Iyengar Yoga teachers from around the world as well as those pursuing certification (having passed their Intro One assessment).

Iyengar Yoga, one of the world’s most widely-practiced forms, emphasizes correct alignment of all parts of the body within each yoga asana (posture). This precision of approach builds strength and stamina, balance and flexibility, and a new sense of well-being. Achieving meditation in action, the practitioner learns to exist fully and vibrantly in the present moment.

IYNAUS, the Iyengar Yoga Association of the United States, is committed to disseminate and promote the art, science and philosophy of yoga according to the teachings of BKS Iyengar and his family. The Association oversees teacher training guidelines, holds annual certification assessments, and maintains a code of ethics for its teachers. IYNAUS also produces a bi-annual newsletter, imports and sells Iyengar yoga publications and products from India, sponsors workshops and conventions, and maintains an archive of Iyengar yoga materials and a national directory of Certified Teachers.

You may cancel your registration at any time but to receive a refund you must do so by 2/28/2013. A $150 processing fee will be charged for all cancellations. All requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS), emailed by 2/28/2013, and emailed to Michelle Yeager. All cancellations after 2/28/2013 will NOT receive a refund or credit of any kind.

To enhance your learning experience, the conference is organized into three asana and pranayama tracks for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. See detailed track descriptions in left-side column of our conference schedule page.

Teachers and students of all yoga disciplines are welcome at the our Regional Conference on May 10 - 12, 2013. However, you must be a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher or pursuing certification (having passed your Intro One assessment) to attend our Teachers’ Convention on May 12 - 15, 2013.

In addition, 2013 membership dues must be paid prior to attending the Teachers’ Convention. IYNAUS members can pay their 2013 dues by visiting iynaus.org. International registrants can pay their dues and certification mark fees through their national member associations or through Gloria Goldberg if they do not belong to a national association.

Yes. Scholarship funds are available based upon generous donations made through the registration web site. Funds will be used to support applicants who demonstrate a financial need.

  • Funds will be allocated for registration only and will be available for both the conference and the convention. Applicants are invited to apply for one or both events.
  • Any request for funding assumes the applicant has made a similar request to their regional Iyengar Yoga association through which funds were unavailable.
  • The amount allocated to an individual applicant will be determined by members of the steering committee.
  • Deadline for applications is March 1, 2013. Applications need to be post marked by this date in order to ensure consideration for scholarship monies.
  • Sarvabhauma Yog Steering Committee members are ineligible for scholarships.

Both attendees and non-attendees are welcome to get involved, build community, make friends, and have fun. Review tasks here, and choose a convenient time to volunteer before, during, or after the events. Then contact Jenny Hartman, Volunteer Chair, when you are ready to join us!

No. However, as a small thank you to everyone for their hard work, two yoga classes will be offered on Sunday afternoon for volunteers only. All volunteers will receive a special yellow t-shirt to wear and be recognized by while working at the conference and convention. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the events and earn the respect and gratitude of everyone who attends Sarvabhauma Yog.



  • Light vegetarian hors d’oeuvres will be provided at the Meet and Greet on Friday evening.
  • A vegetarian dinner will be served on Saturday night. Gluten and lactose-free meal options are available when you register.

The hotel has two restaurants, Terrace Cafe Deli and the Trellises Garden Grill, where attendees will be able to purchase snacks and vegetarian meals.

Parking is available for hotel guests as well as for those staying off site for $5 per day, or $2 per hour (not to exceed $5 per day).

Upon arrival at the Town and Country Resort Hotel, you will need to stop at the registration tables in the Grand Ballroom Foyer. Please ensure that you arrive in time to check in to retrieve your name badge and other event materials. You cannot attend classes without a name badge. Registration check in times are as follows.

  • Regional Conference: Thursday, 5/9/13, 6 - 9 pm
  • Regional Conference: Friday, 5/10/13, 7am - 7 pm
  • Teacher's Convention: Sunday, 5/12/13, 3 pm - 9 pm
  • Teacher's Convention: Monday, 5/13/13, 7:30 am - 4 pm

If you are attending both events you need only check in once, but you will receive two different name badges.

CONFERENCE: The conference begins Friday, May 10, 2013, at 8:30 am and ends Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 12:15 pm. (Your final class may end sooner.)

CONVENTION: The convention begins Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 7pm and ends Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2013 at 12 noon.


If possible, we strongly suggest you to bring a yoga mat, four blankets, two blocks, an eye wrap, and two belts. Make sure you mark your props so that you can identify them. While additional props and yoga supplies may be available from vendors during both events, know that the store will not be open before the first pranayama and asana conference classes on Friday.

Yes, we are planning to offer locations to store props at the venue overnight as well as in between classes. Stay tuned for more details.
